Handley: How did you guys start dating?

Kaitlyn: I always kid with Johnny about how many times (3) I had to introduce myself to him before we actually started dating. We met through mutual friends, Marlo & Will Lowery, and shortly after meeting officially we decided to make a road trip with them to an Alabama football game in Dallas. We shared many dates to the library, ate way too many cookies, and watched unlimited amounts of football in the following months. I think my kitchen skills really sealed the deal. We'd been dating for about two years when Johnny proposed.

Handley: So tell me about your engagement..

Kaitlyn: Johnny planned out every part of the engagement to the smallest detail. He incorporated all the sentimental things in our relationship: sunsets, cheeseburgers, love letters and most importantly, God. He made dinner plans for us, which I thought would be at a nice restaurant downtown. Had I been curious enough to look, I would have realized that the particular restaurant was closed that night. When I met him before dinner, he told me that he had a change of heart and didn't want to eat at that restaurant anymore, and that he was in the mood for a cheeseburger. We went to Jack Brown's Burgers, and he picked up two cheeseburgers to go (as well as some fried oreos). He then drove me to the Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, which overlooks Samford University and Vulcan. We sat and watch the sunset. I could tell Johnny was a little antsy. He guzzled down his cheeseburger faster than I had ever seen before. I remember wanting to take a picture with Johnny so bad, but he refused, saying that we needed to wait until 7:00 for the perfect sunset. After several minutes of waiting no so patiently, Johnny called me over to him, and handed me a note. That note contained a short message, as well as a Bible verse. As I read the note, he got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him. It was incredible, and a moment that I will cherish of the rest of my life.

Handley: Kaitlyn, what is your favorite thing about Johnny?

Kaitlyn: Johnny is my best friend. When he sets his mind to something, he works at it with passion, love, and faith. That can be applied to our relationship, his career, and even golf. From the day he said I love you, I have never had to doubt his love. He puts me before himself every day. Whether its writing a love note or packing my lunch for work, he's always doing the little things to make life easier. He puts a smile on my face and those around him constantly. Loving Johnny is fun.

Handley: Johnny, what is your favorite thing about Kaitlyn?

Johnny: If I had to pick one thing about Kaitlyn that I love the most, it would be that she always wants to hold my hand. I think this action symbolizes why I love her so much. It isn't the mere feeling of touching her hand, but the feeling that accompanies this action. It is significant for several reasons. First, it represents her unwavering love and loyalty. Every time she reaches for my hand, it gives me an unexplainable feeling that sets me at ease. I now that when I am struggling, Kait will be there no matter what. The peace that she brings to my life is incredible. Its overwhelming in a good way, overwhelming in a way that I don't think I could live without after having experienced it. This action can also be likened to her ability to lift people up. Kaitlyn is constantly making the people around her feel special; she truly is selfless. She has taught me, through unintentional actions, how to put others first. These are qualities that I always desired, and knew that I wanted to incorporate into my life, but they never made an appearance...until I met Kait. Lastly, I love Kait's unwavering relationship with the Lord, and who she has brought me closer to Him. She inspires me to bring us closer to each other, but more importantly closer to the Lord.

These two really are the perfect match. I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for them as a married couple, and I am so honored that they chose me to help them along this journey. SO looking forward to their October wedding! There is sure to be more than a few cheeseburgers involved...
